Dream Destination Wedding in Mexico - Heather & Matt

This week, we are celebrating the one year anniversary of Heather and Matt!! When you meet this couple, it is just instantly obvious that they were born to be together. From the way they lightheartedly joke around and crack each other up, to the sweet looks they give each other when they think no one is watching...

Their connection is so natural you would never guess that they are an online dating success story! They met on Plenty More Fish, and on their first date - witty Matt and fun-loving Heather completely hit it off and just KNEW they had finally met the person they wanted to spend the rest of their lives with.

Heather-and-Matt-Proposal

The proposal

Fast forward one year later and Matt couldn't wait to make things official... So he planned a "special" date night for the two of them at Denville's Uptown Art, where Heather thought she was in for a fun and romantic paint and wine night with her man. Little did she know, Matt had something even more exciting up his sleeve - or should I say in his pocket...

While Heather painted a beachy landscape, she had no idea Matt had already had some practice. He went to the gallery a week before to paint "Will You Marry Me" on a canvas that he would later switch out with his real painting during their date. Towards the end of the night the whole group got on stage to take a Facebook photo and Matt slyly switched his painting with the "Will You Marry Me" sign to hold it up for the picture. In the midst of his nerves and excitement however, Matt accidentally (and adorably) held the sign upside-down! The hosts frantically signaled to Matt to turn it right-side up, and as soon as he did Heather realized the comotion and saw the painting.

Through teary eyes Heather jumped for joy, put her hand out, and they began the process of planning not only their wedding, but their future lives together.

creating her design

When Heather came to me to help design her bridal shower, her small ceremony in New Jersey AND her magical destination wedding, I was over the moon excited. Heather is my favorite kind of bride. She has a style and vision and just needs some help bringing it all to life. Someone to find a way to make her ideas look cohesive and feel unique to her personal style. Heather had SO many ideas - she wanted  "light pink, green, maybe gold, starfish, mexican calla lilies, and roses." She wanted to avoid any "crazy tropical colors" and keep the theme "chic beach wedding". Needless to say, I had my work cut out for me. It was tricky to incorporate starfish into a tropical floral theme without it becoming tacky or overtly beachy.

Over a few emails and a couple more inspiration images from Heather, I got to work trying to bring her chic beach wedding to life. After some trial and error and a few tweaks on my end, I was ready to send the first iteration of the design to Heather to get her opinion. Here is the design I sent her:

I combined her ideas using light pink and green with tropical florals, soft coral peaking out, and mini pink starfish speckled about the design. Keeping the flower, coral, and starfish all relatively the same color made for the multi-element design to look clean, chic and beachy - exactly what Heather was going for. Her reaction was any designers dream! Here are a few of Heather's texts she sent shortly after I sent her the first iteration:

"Omg I absolutely love it! I don't think there is a single thing I would change.

I don't know how you did it, it's perfect! I'm so happy, I'm a little emotional!

I couldn't even describe what I wanted but somehow you did it! Thanks so much! You seriously made it happen.

I was ecstatic that I could bring her dream wedding one step closer to reality. Now, I would take elements from this design and use different variations of it throughout all of her wedding decor.

The wedding day

The day of Heather and Matt's wedding was pure magic. Can't you just FEEL the love between these two and their families in these photos?! The couple lovingly wrote their own vows, and here are their closing promises to each other:

"I see these vows not just as promises but as privileges. I get to laugh with you, cry with you, care for you, and share with you. I call you My Matty."

"My Heather, because you are; we are everything together, and you have shown me more love than I've ever known."

(tear!) I can't imagine there being a dry eye in the crowd after this.

Heck, I can't even read this without tearing up!

Heather and Matt's favorite moments of the day were the intimacy and sentiment of the ceremony - and alternately - letting loose during cocktail hour with their families, and tearing up the dance floor during their first dance... and long into the night under the warm, windy Mexican sky with thier sunkissed guests.
