How to Automate Your Life

In this life hack series, I’ll be tackling the age-old problem of only having 24 hours in a day. Our time to accomplish our goals each day is seriously limited, yet somehow, certain people seem to squeeze more into a day than others... well my friends - I am here to spill a few secrets.

AUTOMATE, AUTOMATE, AUTOMATE

Automate as many of your daily tasks as possible so you can focus on the things that matter most to you - like spending time with your family, reaching your business goals, or simply enjoying that moment after a long day where you grab yourself a glass of wine, plop yourself on the couch, and watch your favorite show.  Whatever it is you want to be doing, automating your life will help you do more of it. Some things you can automate are:

Bills & Savings

Set up auto-payments for every time you get a paycheck so that you are automatically paying your bills and automatically depositing into your savings. Not only does this save you time and stress, it also frees up mental space in your head from worrying if you paid that bill or remembered to save that certain % of your paycheck.

Use Automation Apps

Connect the apps you use every day through ZappierWorkflow, and IFTTT. These apps create workflows that connect your apps so they can work together. These apps allow you to automate your social media posts, receive regular updates about specific topics from your news apps (like a Google alert) and much more! You'd be surprised just how useful these time saving apps can be.

Amazon Alexa

I haven't purchased this yet myself (hint-hint Josh!), but every time I go to one of my friends' houses I am so amazed with how convenient they are. You can get instant weather updates, set reminders or timers, tell her to play whatever song you're in the mood to sing along to, or better yet, automate your grocery list. Just yell to Miss Alexa to add coffee or bread to your list, and it will automatically be added to your phone. Alex saves you time and energy from checking your phone or adding in reminders and to-do lists.

Subscriptions Services

Last but definitely not least, one of the most useful automation techniques available today is the use of subscription services like Amazon Fresh or Blue Apron. These services help you eliminate one of the most troublesome tasks of your week, grocery shopping. This can save you hours of driving, browsing, and (if you live in the city like me) looking for parking! I have an entire post dedicated to exploring these services a little more here.

By combining the effects of automation, batching, subscription services, online shopping, and the Pomodoro method, you will be well on your way to saving yourself at least 8 hours a week. The goal of this life-hack is to round up all of the time-consuming and annoying tasks you do each week and find a way to complete them in one large chunk of time, or find a way to eliminate them completely! Getting these tasks off your plate will help optimize your life so you can truly focus on things that matter most to you and live a well-rounded life.

Which of these methods were you already doing? Which of them will you start to implement? Tell me in the comments below, and any other time-saving life-hacks you have up your sleeve!
