4th of July Cotton-Candy Watermelon Vodka Cocktail
Is everyone around here ready to party it up this 4th of July?! If you aren't quite feeling patriotic yet, these flirty and festive drinks are sure to get you in the mood.
As you may already know, I love anything with a theme. So give me an excuse to make a fun drink with festive garnish and I am ALL about it.
So I originally got this cocktail idea from a bar I went to on South Street The Tattooed Mom, where I had a super refreshing watermelon martini.. with a twist. They made the drink in front of me, mixed it in the shaker, and then placed this amazing pink, fluffy cotton candy in the martini glass and poured the cocktail directly on top of it! It melted into the drink seamlessly and gave the refreshing drink just a slight bit of sweetness. So, I wanted to try to re-create this drink using blue cotton candy to be festive for the 4th of July! If you're throwing a 4th of July party, this drink is pretty easy to make but looks like an advanced bartender created some new age concoction!
I combined the Tattooed Mom version with a few ideas on Pinterest and voila! The cotton candy watermelon vodka cocktail was born.
Now I'm not going to lie - I was so excited about how this drink would turn out but unfortunately the blue cotton candy was a bit of a fail. As you know blue and red make purple, and a purple drink just just doesn't feel very patriotic. So I decided to create the recipe with pink cotton candy and garnish with fun 4th of July drink toppers. The blue cotton candy mixture doesn't look THAT bad but if you're going for a pretty colored cocktail I would opt for the pink.
Here's the blue cotton candy version... It doesn't quite look as nice as the pure red drink right? But hey, if you think it looks cool, then go for it! It all tastes the same.
And here's the final pink cotton candy version once the watermelon vodka mixture has been poured! So festive right??
- 8 cups fresh seedless watermelon cubed (here)
- 2 Tbsp lime juice (here)
- 2 Tbsp honey (here)
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup watermelon vodka, or Tito's vodka
- Pink or Blue Cotton Candy (I used this)
- 1/2 cup Ice
For garnish (optional):
- fresh mint leaves (here)
In a blender, add watermelon, lime juice, honey, water, and ice and blend until fully pureed.
Pour through fine mesh strainer to remove pulp and seeds. Add vodka and stir to combine.
Place cotton candy in glass.
Pour over cotton candy until melted and garnish with extra watermelon slices and mint leaves, if desired, and serve immediately.
Pro Tip: Put glasses in a row and place cotton candy inside them. Put the watermelon cocktail mixture in a pitcher next to the glasses so when your guests arrive they can pour the drink themselves and and watch the "magic" happen.
Happy 4th of July lovelies! I already celebrated over the weekend and this Wednesday we will be venturing out to watch the Wawa 4th of July fireworks along the Ben Franklin Parkway! So let me know if you're planning a 4th of July party and if you plan to make these fun drinks in the comments below!
